About the Artist

Artist Statement

I am very excited about my paintings and drawings. I paint and draw positive/negative images in a realistic/abstract format, making the realistic foreground image strong, yet mostly empty, while the negative background is rendered in texture, emphasizing color and composition. One of my favorite techniques is to paint and draw strong color lines around the principal images to give them depth and vibrancy. I also tend toward simple, natural, and unusual views and perspectives. The results are paintings and drawings of animals, waterfalls, or storm clouds that engage the viewer and fit into most modern living environments

Artist Biography

I have been painting, drawing, and designing for most of my life. One of my earliest commissions while living in Kentucky was for a full-scale Derby race on the walls of a very large family recreation room. Later, I moved to Minneapolis and enrolled in the Minneapolis School of Art. I also designed posters, brochures, and programs at the Dudley Riggs Brave New Workshop.

In 1979, I settled in the Washington, DC area and accepted commissions for indoor and outdoor murals. In 1980, my partner and I formed Painted Images, Inc., the studio through which we designed and marketed wearable art, textiles, paintings, and murals. It was through this market that several clients in Washington, DC became acquainted with my work.

After we moved to Harpers Ferry, WV, I launched a new series of paintings and drawings. During this period, I was invited to participate in regional and national juried art exhibitions. My work has been featured in local newspapers, magazines and the Washington Post on-line. I am also on the roster of West Virginia artists represented in the Tamarack Arts Center in Beckley, WV, where I recently exhibited and sold drawings.
